 Morphology and biology:
The adults are polyphagous and they feed on pollen, nectar, petals and other floral organs; they are 10 - 15 mms long and have yellow - orange elytrons with black strips. The eggs are deposed (20 - 35 eggs) in the ground; the larvas are active raiders of eggs of Grasshoppers, especially of Dociostaurus maroccanus and of Calliptamus spp. In the family of the Coleoptera Meloidae it is possible to signal another species: Epicauta rufidorsum Goeze. This coleopter has a red head and black elytrons; it is an active predator of eggs of Grasshoppers.
