Cryptomyzus ribis L.
Bugs
GOOSBERRY

 Description:
- Apterous adult: 1,2 - 1,8 mm long; elongate, narrow, pale yellow to bright orange in colour; antennae longer than body; eyes red.

 Biology:
- Host - plants: currant and black currant.
- The eggs hatch in April and give rise to fundatrices which settle on the underside of leaves to feed, blisters appearing on the upper surface.

 Life cycle:
- This species survives on Ribes. Some individuals migrate to dead - nettle (Lamium maculatum, L. amplexicaule) and Stachys (S. sylvatica, S. arvensis, S. palustris).

 Damage:
Bites cause blisters or pseudo - galls to form on the leaves, which then take on a very characteristic wine - red coloration. Damage may extend throughout a whole plantation and hinder the development of bushes.
